Corn measure at the cornstone square

The measure of things

In the past, a grain market was held at today’s Kornsteinplatz. For this purpose, there was a stone grain measure and a stone into which the market flag was stuck on market days. In the Middle Ages, there was lively trade here and markets are still held at Kornsteinplatz today.

In the Middle Ages, the desired amount of grain was measured with the grain measure. Of course, this is no longer done today. In the meantime, the grain measure was stored in the Celtic Museum, but in the meantime, the grain measure that gave it its name is back where it used to be: on Kornsteinplatz. You can find it right next to the Kastenbrunnen. Tip: Every Friday afternoon the organic farmers’ market takes place here, every Saturday morning the green market.
