With 21,314 inhabitants, Hallein is the second-largest city in the state of Salzburg and has received many nicknames over the years: Salt pans, Celtic city, cultural city, school city or industrial city are the titles of the small historic city on the Salzach – and they all bear witness to Hallein’s lively history and its ability to change over time.

Today, locals and guests are equally enthusiastic about the almost completely preserved medieval old town with its rich offer and flair. The district capital of Tennengau has developed into a multi-faceted city.
